jeff buckley - died may 29th 1997. was not discovered on american idol.

i have been a fan of jeff buckley for many, many years. sadly he has not been with us since his death in may 29th 1997. if there's one album i want to take with me beyond the grave it would be 'grace'.

do me one favour. if you haven't yet heard his music then go check out his website here. listen to the radio they have there and then watch some of the footage. his vocal range is just incredible as is his ability to pen music that is so distinct, multi-layered and technically brilliant that you'll be left somewhat speechless.

BD, MTh, MDiv, MCS - degrees galore. Ah, the privilege of having access to good education. What a gift!

I was speaking with a friend last week on the question/issue of the professionalism of ministry. I know many of us are undertaking Theology degrees or, like myself have graduated with one. I'm stuck on this question though - at what point, if any, does gifting become secondary to the obtaining of a professional theology degree? Or simply put - what kind of culture are we guilty of creating whereby ministry is only really legitimate when ministered by someone with a theology degree?

CS Lewis - no theology degree.

Got me thinking on some other points. Is it right to incur debt when undergoing theological/pastoral training? Yep, pretty loaded question but I'd be interested in your thoughts.

book club keeps going

In another attempt to keep this book club going (Ruth, thanks for your contributions) I am reading 'Surprised by Joy' written by CS Lewis. If you are interested in continuing this endeavour then pick up the book and watch for discussion.
