Family Time

Just a few new pics to keep you updated, taken during a recent visit from my (Louise's) Aunt & Uncle. Thanks for visiting us Bruce & Nanas, and for spoiling us rotten while you were here!Pict4047_3

endangered values

So I've just finished reading Jimmy Carter's book 'Our Endangered Values - America's moral crisis'. It was a fascinating read. More comments to follow.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAM!

Yesterday our wee man turned one!  What happened?  Where did the year go?  We've had lots of fun celebrating over the weekend.  Our friends Tracey & Daryl were with us, and then we had Sam's party on Sunday afternoon which was great fun (who would have thought 26 people of various sizes could fit in our place?).  Lots of photos in the album on the right for your enjoyment!

between a rock and a community

Rocks_at_iona Glenn is carrying a really useful discussion just now on the role of Sunday services for Churches and the movement toward smaller faith communities.

Glenn has beaten me to it in many ways, not on this particular issue but on the thread of discussion that is taking place. I wrestle with this question - what will a rebirth, reimaging or reconversion of the Church look like for meaningful ministry in this world?

Thoughts?

wake up - the world is changing

Eiffel_tower During the recent switch-off of the Eiffel Tower's decorative lights, national consumption of energy fell by 1%.

Have you bought energy saving bulbs yet?

This was the new bulletin I read from Times online this evening.

"The world's top scientists have issued the direst warnings yet about the threat from climate change. After six years of research, they predict the average world temperature will rise by about three degrees by the end of the century - with potentially devastating consequences for melting ice caps and rising sea levels. They also make the strongest causal link so far between human behaviour and global warming."

The BBC also have an interesting report to read - link here.

Am i sounding like a broken record yet? I hope so, I really do.

If God is longing to reconcile "all things" to  himself, where are you in your ministry of reconciliation?  How would you encourage your friends, your family, your fellow Christians to understand creation's longing to be reconciled to its creator? Practically speaking what can you do to curb your energy waste? What would you be willing to do (not all of us can turn off the lights of the Eiffel Tower) next week to make one dent in helping the environment? Speak up and commit yourself to something here!

How about using public transport - just for one week? What about taking your own grocery bags (cloth for example) to the store for your shopping so you don't have to take more plastic bags?

In search of God?

Whether you are or you aren't John Humphrys, a well respected BBC news reporter, lays his cards on the table about "... his unfulfilled desire to find God", through a three part series on Radio 4 where he interviews Dr Rowan Williams, Professor Tariq Ramadan and Sir Jonathan Sacks.

You can find the link to the programme here.
